Faces Of Hecate

In Grecian mythology (as well as other religions and cultures) the number 3 is sacred. There are three furies (Megaera, Tisiphone and Alecto) three graces (Aglaea, Euphrosyne, Thalia) and three Fates (Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos) There is also the three headed dog, Cerberus. Then, there are three major Gods (Poseidon, Zeus and Hades) who ruled over their respective three dominions (Sky, Sea and Underworld)

This next image also follows the rule of threes - it is where the triple goddess in Paganism/Wicca comes. The three faces of Hecate, the witch goddess. She is the embodiment of the progression from maiden, who is young and naive... to mother, the child bearer and protector.... to old, wise and powerful witch who is a master of magick. Hecate is also ruled by the moon (three phases... waxing, waning and full, which forms the triple goddess symbol) and she, the triple goddess herself, rules the Heavens, Earth and Underworld.
